Reaction to photos that lie

I posted the image of the “enter enter” sign I photoshopped on twitter with no caption. Not many people responded to my photo because I don’t have many followers. The people that did respond, thought the sign was real.  I didn’t consider these responses unexpected because at first glance the sign misprint looks real. People asked where the sign was as well.

Social Media Reaction

I choose to post one of my more outrageous pictures I did for the “Photos That Lie” project on Twitter.   I aptly just named it #art, and from that point let it loose on the internet.  The most immediate response was from all my friends on twitter, as many of them “favorited” my tweet, but it was interesting to see who else liked it.  Since I posted it with the hashtag art, many people were able to see it through following that very basic hashtag.  Although I didn’t get as many likes or responses I did from my friends, I still got a few likes from strangers who must have found it following that hashtag.  Overall, everyone seemed to like it.

Lying photo

I decided to post the above picture. Some people didn’t recognize the “lie” in the photo at first. They just liked the picture and said the chicken is really cute. But some people do understand what is going on or realize it after reading some comments posted by other people. Everyone knows the photo is not true. Some people said it is really good job. They didn’t find any obvious sign of retouching while other people just asked what app did I use.

“Lying Photographs” to social media

I decided to post two “fake advertisements” I did based on two totally different advertisements.  Without the information that these pictures are “lying”, most people did not recognize that they are appropriated. When showing the four pictures together, my friend comments that the first two look more real and convincible even after she knows that the other two are the original ones.

I think this effect is very interesting concerns with my choice of products and the spokesperson. The poses are also related as people always refer perfume to a woman who can give a softer figure to the public. Another interesting comment on these advertisements is about the relationship between Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt. This background information gives a sense of sarcasm and humor to the pictures at the same time.
