What is Lafayette Anime Club?
Q.
What is the purpose of your club?
A.
The Lafayette Anime Club is a Lafayette-based group devoted to the study of Japanese and Asian culture through anime, manga, and other types of entertainment and cultural institutions (both pop and otherwise). Our weekly meetings are devoted to viewing whatever shows were chosen by the Officer crew. There are also various events and trips to various events each year.
Q.
I am interested in joining your club. Where do I sign?
A.Just come by and visit us at one of our weekly meetings. Even if you’re not sure you want to join, don’t be afraid to stop by and see what we’re about. Everyone is welcome!
Q.
When and where are your meetings?
A.
We are located in Hugel Science Center Room 100 from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM on Mondays.
What is Anime & Manga?
Q.
What is anime?
A.
Anime is a style of animation that originates from Japan. You can call it a Japanese cartoon, though that’s generally a bad idea.
Q.
What is manga?
A.
Manga is essentially Japanese comic books. They are read from right to left instead of the Western left to right.
Q.
Subs vs Dubs?
A.
Personal preference varies greatly on this question. It is possible to make an argument for dubbed anime, but if the intent is to become further acquainted with Japanese culture, subtitled anime would be the more preferred format. Without needing to restrict and conform to speech timing, subtitles can provide more accurate translations, as well as allow the original voice acting to be heard. At least, that’s the opinion of this Co-President.
