Why are you an engineer?
“I chose to become an engineer not just due to my obsession with LEGOs as a kid, but mainly due to my desire to improve on the challenges of the human experience. Nothing is absolutely perfect, so we as mechanical engineers can refine and improve on existing designs, in order to meet the needs of everyday life. Additionally, as an engineer, I enjoy using my creativity in collaboration with others to solve problems with different innovative solutions.”
Why did you want to be on the human-centered design team?
“While the theme of the other design teams seemed interesting, I wanted to be on the human-centered design team for the freedom to select from any market and focus on the issues within the market. Additionally, with the COVID-19 pandemic, new problems have arisen in all markets; the human-centered design team has allowed us the ability to decide which market is most struggling with the pandemic and given me the satisfaction of affected change with our design.”
What excites you most about your team’s project?
“Mainly due to bias working on the portable desk, I am most excited about the portable desk. While there are collapsible desks and other standing desks on the market, there are no affordable options for desks that can perform both functions. The adjustability of our desk designs allows children with special needs in particular to concentrate by standing up without the need to leave the desk. The collapsibility of the design allows the children to move the desk between home and school, supporting the learning needs of all environments. With our design, we hope to offer the necessary tools for children with special needs to help them with their education, and affect change in education even with a simple design change.”
