Human-Centered Design

The purpose of our design project is to address the heightened academic challenges students with special needs are facing during the current pandemic.

Through interviews with special education teachers and research about this demographic, it is determined that the major needs these
teachers have are maximizing their students’ focus, engagement, and physical stimulation while learning in front of a screen.

Three different solutions are proposed to be developed – a
collapsible child’s desk design that can be transported in a hybrid-learning environment, an accountability band design that will hold the student accountable for completing their tasks and staying focused, and a desk topper that will allow for different organized engagement accessories to stimulate the student.
