Starting an Organization
Prospective student clubs or organizations may acquire Student Government recognition by preparing a constitution and providing a roster of 20 or more interested participants to the Student Organizations Chair of Student Government. The request for club recognition should be presented at a Student Government body meeting. If recognition is granted, student groups can apply for an initial budget in the spring and/or apply for supplementary allocations from Student Government throughout the academic year.
College accounts are created for recognized student clubs and organizations. These organizations are not permitted to hold accounts with outside firms without the express permission of the Director of Student Activities.
Student Government “recognition” acknowledges the diversity of skills, interests, and opinions present within the student body; it does not, however, carry with it the endorsement of the Student Government or of the College.
A large number of organized activities, clubs, club sports, societies and other student organizations are recognized by the College through the Student Government. Recognition permits these groups to develop programs and activities and to use College facilities. The College offers these groups leadership training opportunities and advising on financial and other matters of interest to student organizations through the offices of Student Life Programs and Residence Life, and the Student Government, but it does not provide supervision for these groups. The College is not liable for any personal injuries and/or medical expenses resulting from club activities whether on or off campus.
