Anime Club

Arts Society

The Hoff Award-winning Lafayette College Arts Society, open to all student musicians, actors, visual artists, designers, dancers, directors, filmmakers, writers, avid performance-goers, and arts enthusiasts, works to advance the presence of the fine and performing arts on the Lafayette campus. LCAS sponsors, presents, and manages arts-related events, programs, and activities open to all students, such as trips to performances and exhibitions, arts workshops, jam sessions, student musical performances and readings, guest speakers, master classes, movie nights, receptions for visiting artists, etc. Several of our events are open to and enjoyed by the community at large: the Block pARTy (very popular), swing dance party, and annual a cappella concert.


Baking Club

Cadence (All Female A Cappella)

Cadence is Lafayette’s premiere all female a cappella group. Since their inception in 1993, Cadence has made waves with their original student arrangements, fierce talent, and significant presence on campus. Each year Cadence aims to make a strong contribution to the musical creativity on campus and within the local community: this past year, Cadence performed at the Student Movement Against Cancer’s annual fundraising event, and the Third Street Alliance in Easton. Cadence was also fortunate enough to workshop with the Grammy-award winning jazz group New York Voices and perform for the Nobel-Prize winning author Toni Morrison at a rally for Barack Obama. Ladies interested in auditioning must be willing to commit to rehearsals from 6:00-8:00 PM on Mondays and 4:00- 6:00 PM on Tuesdays and should prepare a 1-2 minute solo piece consistent with our repertoire (includes Natasha Bedingfield, Alanis Morissette, Sarah Bareilles, Maroon 5, and John Mayer).

Cinema in Society

The members of Cinema in Society value the effect of film in our world today. Film, as an art, often transcends superficial entertainment value and focuses on society’s problems in an effort to alter people’s view of the world and their role in it. The members wish to evaluate films along with other art forms in an effort to learn about how issues affect our world. The group will also seek to bring foreign work into light in an effort to focus on global issues.

Japanese Floor

Mission statement:
The goal of the Japanese floor is to bring together Lafayette students from different backgrounds and cultures who share a common interest in Japanese culture. The group strives to promote an understanding of Japan and its civilization as well as to enhance the mutual understanding between Western and Eastern cultures in general.

Description:
Located in Keefe Hall 2nd floor with the French floor and the German floor, JIF residents benefit from a diverse living environment. As JIF is both a residential group but also recognized as a student organization, the activities range from floor programs to campus-wide events. Past events include the co-sponsored presentation on Taiko, Japanese drum with the Department of Music in Spring 2006, sushi nights, joint floor programs with other culture residential groups, karaoke and DDR nights, Judo 101, history talks with Professor Paul Barclay.

Lafayette Dance Team

The Lafayette Dancers perform at the home football and basketball games. We also appear at venues such as the block party and pep ralleys. We not only promote Lafayette’s excellence through our dance moves on campus but also plan to compete in the local area to represent our school. Tryouts will be held the second week of the fall semester so please check out our website and watch for fliers and posters. Dancer or not we all can share in our pard pride so come support us at the games. Go Leopards!

Synchromotion

Synchromotion provides the Lafayette community with the opportunity to experience, learn, and perform different types of dance that include: ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, modern, musical theatre, and more. Synchromotion provides weekly and bimonthly classes that are designed to work on improving and enhancing ballet and jazz technique. Each year, Synchromotion coordinates a recital at the end of the spring semester to showcase the various dance routines that were learned during the school year.

WJRH Radio

The station is operated by students serving as DJs, technicians, and staff. It serves Lafayette’s campus as well as most of Easton and parts of Phillipsburg. Students who have previously worked at the station comment that the work was a valuable experience – and lots of fun! The station has an eclectic format – all music styles and show types are considered appropriate from political talk shows to live bands on air. WJRH has state-of-the-art broadcast equipment and student DJs and technicians are trained in its use and maintenance. We encourage all interested students to apply for show-time.
