Grand Challenges and Green Engineering

In 2008, the National Academy of Engineering outlined 14 goals for improving life on the planet. These Grand Challenges fall under four interdisciplinary themes – sustainability, health, security, and the joy of living.

This course is a continuing effort for students and educators to consider sustainability while coming up with solutions to the grand challenges. The following for lectures represent a short course that brings in examples of green engineering thought and practice. Beginning with an introduction into the Grand Challenges and Green Engineering, the following topical lectures focus on energy, water, and the pharmaceuticals industry. Please feel free to use the materials below and contact Dr. Soh (sohl@lafayette.edu) with comments, additions, and questions.
