STEERING COMMITTEE

Charge

Working in support of the college leadership, the steering committee will develop a campus-wide proposal for an integrative, holistic, inclusive, and developmentally-appropriate Lafayette Student Experience. The steering committee guides the work of the subcommittees to ensure that specific initiatives and implementation plans are integrated across all college divisions and communicated to relevant constituents and stakeholders.

CO- AND EXTRA-CURRICULAR LEARNING SUBCOMMITTEE

Charge

The subcommittee will catalog current learning and social opportunities outside the classroom and examine how they contribute to students’ experience across a four-year developmental model.  The subcommittee will propose ways in which campus-wide programming can more explicitly contribute to a student’s four-year development within a residential community – with particular focus on developing an affinity for Lafayette College, a personal model for values clarification, an understanding of the value of a pluralistic and inclusive environment, leadership skills and civic engagement both on- and off-campus, and finding one’s own intellectual passion.

ACADEMIC ADVISING AND SUCCESS SUBCOMMITTEE

Charge

The subcommittee will identify the current faculty and non-faculty sources of advising and examine how current support contributes to students’ learning across a four year developmental model.  The subcommittee will propose mechanisms for integrating academic advising with both the residential experience and campus-wide support programs, ways in which students with both exceptional promise and at-risk indicators are identified early in order to invest in their success, models for more intentional retention strategies, and mechanisms for partnering with Lafayette alumni to enhance students’ success.

RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITIES SUBCOMMITTEE

Charge

The subcommittee will identify the structural configuration and programmatic requirements for a developmental residential life experience with a specific focus on the residence halls and dining facilities.  The subcommittee will work closely with the other two subcommittees to propose models for leveraging Lafayette’s residential infrastructure in support of institutional values and student learning.  The subcommittee will identify intentional programs and informal learning opportunities specific to the residential spaces, leadership positions and mentoring opportunities, and administrative policies/procedures consistent with best practices.  In addition, this subcommittee will make recommendations regarding the physical facilities.
