The structural team of the Lafayette Engineering Company designed the architectural and structural components of the Elevating Easton Project. The list of tasks completed is outlined below.

  • Comparison of different alignments for the connection between Williams Arts Campus and the Lafayette Main Campus
  • Feasibility study and comparison of different design alternatives for the connection
    • Design alternatives: single elevator tower, dual elevator towers, inclined elevator
  • Recommendation of an Inclined Elevator System as best alternative based on costs, constructability, and aesthetics
  • Structural system and support design for the Inclined Elevator System (Intermodal Transportation Center, the Elevator Superstructure, and the Marquis Landing)
  • Architectural design and recommendations for the Intermodal Transportation Center, the Elevator Superstructure, and the Marquis Landing based on the Lafayette College Master Plan and the City of Easton Historic District Guidelines
  • Design of the elevator mechanisms including an emergency breaking system, de-icing system, counterweight, and motor specifications
