The workshop will be held on Wednesday, November 4, noon-1, in Scott Hall 104. Lunch will be provided courtesy of the Provost’s Office. Making the Transition to College Writing

Watt Writing Room (aka the WA room), Pardee 319

Noon-1, Wednesday, October 28

First-Year students are cordially invited to join members of CWP for an informal discussion/workshop on writing for college. We’d like to hear from you about your writing experiences thus far: what expectations did you have for writing in college? In what ways have your expectations been met? In what ways have they been challenged? What do you know now as a writer that you wish you’d known (or learned) in high school?

RSVP by October 26 to Bianca Falbo, CWP Director: falbob@lafayette.edu.

We have room for about 20 students in the WA room, so RSVPs will be accepted in the order in which they’re received.

Lunch will be provided.

On Tuesday, August 25, CWP will offer the following events for FYS faculty.

1:30-2:30. An informal, introductory meeting for new FYS faculty. At this meeting, we’ll be happy to discuss any questions you have about teaching with writing. And feel free to bring along syllabi- and/or assignments-in-progress.
2:45-3:45. An open-house for all FYS faculty, co-sponsored by the FYS Program. Meet other FYS faculty, get answers to your questions about the FYS and/or CWP programs, pick up a desk copy of the St. Martin’s Handbook, etc.

Both events will take place in the William Watt Writing Room (Pardee 319). Refreshments provided courtesy of the Provost’s Office.

Desk copies of the sixth edition of the St. Martin’s Handbook have arrived. If you are teaching an FYS, this is the edition that your students will have. Please stop by the English Department (P 316) to pick up your copy.

If you are teaching sophomore, junior and/or senior students, they are most likely to have the fifth edition. Desk copies of that edition are also available in the English Department.

St. Martin’s Handbook, 6e

Bedford has recently updated the St. Martin’s Handbook to reflect the most recent MLA guidelines. This new edition has been ordered for all FYS sections and will be available in the bookstore in the fall. Desk copies for faculty will be available upon request. Contact Bianca Falbo (CWP Director) or Christian Tatu (CWP Coordinator) for more info.

Nominate a WA

Faculty are invited to nominate students for WA positions throughout the year. While students from the past semester are fresh in your mind, consider sending us names of any you think would make good WAs. We’ll keep those names on file and contact the students in the spring when our hiring process begins. Kindly email nominations to Bianca Falbo.
